We I first started my online store, and with a mindset of offering only organic, eco-friendly products the first brand that came to my mind was: Piccalilly.
Every garment that my children wore from Piccalilly was high quality and 100% organic. When I started to dig more my fascination grew more just by knowing of their fair trade practices.
Their chemical free organic cotton are sourced from an amazing project called Chetna Organic. It’s a fair-trade cotton programme with a mission to improve the livelihood of smallholder farmers by making their farm systems more sustainable and profitable. These farmers also own a 10% equity stake in the factory and the cotton farmers are pre-financed and guaranteed stable cotton prices and a premium to spend within their local community.
In 2008 Chetna became the first cotton farmers organization in India to receive Fairtrade Certification. Garments manufactured using Chetna Cotton have complete traceability down to the farmers field it has been grown in.
Why Organic Cotton is best for our Planet?
Excessive use of chemicals in conventional cotton production has led to a great deal of environmental pollution. Organic cotton uses less water and maintains healthy soils making crops more resilient. It also keeps the local environment pollution free ensuring a healthy life for the farmers and their families.
But best of all...organic cotton is grown without the use of nasty chemical pesticides and fertilizers making it kinder to wear on delicate skin. It's also healthier to the farmers who grow it and healthier for wildlife eco-systems too. A Win Win!
